John Grimsmo discusses how to install and set up the Nakamura Tome CNC Lathe

Our new Nakamura Tome CNC machine came yesterday. I want to see this thing get plugged in, it is wired up, it just needs to be kind of levelled and him go through all this stuff make sure it all works. I’m excited to get running – it’s it’s so nice to see that machine run for about two hours and 20 minutes hands off. If it breaks, the tool breakage detection will catch so I don’t have to worry about it.

What is the Nakamura-Tome CNC machine?

Nakamura-Tome CNC machines are renowned for their precision, reliability, and ease of operation. They are manufactured by a high-quality Japanese builder based in Kanazawa, Japan. Nakamura-Tome has established itself as a leading name in the machine tool industry, particularly in the realm of CNC lathes and multi-axis turning centers. Here are some key aspects of Nakamura-Tome CNC machines:

Multi-Tasking and Versatility: Nakamura-Tome specializes in multi-tasking turning centers and offers over 20 twin spindle machine configurations. Their machines are capable of handling everything from raw stock to complete parts in one setup. This capability significantly reduces cycle times and eliminates the need for extra operations, streamlining the manufacturing process

Heavy-Duty and High-Precision Machines: An example of their advanced machinery is the Nakamura-Tome NTRX-300, a heavy-duty machine with full twin spindles and a robust tool spindle. This machine includes a 25 HP tool spindle with 12,000 RPM and full 5-axis machining capabilities. It features a 10-inch stroke for the Y-axis and an 80 tool ATC as standard, with the option for 40 or 120 tools. It’s also equipped with Fanuc 31i-B5 5-axis control

Hand-Built Precision and Innovation: Nakamura-Tome machines are hand-built, emphasizing high quality and precision. They are known for their innovation in the field of CNC lathes and multi-axis turning centers

Size and Suitability: Nakamura-Tome’s machines are designed for small to medium-sized parts. For instance, the narrowest machine in their lineup, the AS-200, is approximately 1.65 meters in width. This makes them suitable for a range of industrial applications where space efficiency is important

Overall, Nakamura-Tome CNC machines are highly respected in the industry for their precision, innovation, and ability to perform complex machining tasks efficiently and reliably.
